J. Thornton, 92, who died at a local hospital, December 31, were held at the Hebron Baptist Church near Sikes, January 2 at 10 a.m. The Rev. George Womack of Monroe, pastor of the Hebron Baptist Church, had charge of the services. Mr. Thornton, who would have been 92 years old in February, had made his home with his son, H. J. Thornton, of Tannehill, for several years. He had been bedridden for the past five years. A native of the Hebron Community, he had joined the Hebron Baptist Church when a young man and had later moved his letter to Texas where he resided. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Fleet Herring of Sikes and Miss Elba Thornton, of Tannehill; two sons, H. L. Thornton of Mansfield and H. J. Thornton of Tannehill. He also leaves 10 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. Acting as pallbearers were Clyde Herring, Jesse Thornton, Jack Thornton, Pete Perdue, Earl Thornton, and Douglas Bryan.
