J. Thornton Thursday Night Beloved Citizen of Tannehill Community Buried at Zion Hill Following a number of years of failing health, death called a beloved member of Tannehill Community, Mrs. H. J. Thornton, 46 years of age, who died Thursday night, July 11 at 10 p.m. She is survived by her husband, H. J. Thornton, children Lydia, Jesse, Geneva, Jack, and Mildred; her aged father, Jesse McKaskle, Sikes; sisters Mrs. C. E. Prince, Shreveport, Mrs. C. E. Jarrell, West Monroe; brothers, John McKaskle, West Monroe, Jesse McKaskle, Jonesboro, and a host of other relatives and friends. Mrs. Thornton was born in Jackson Parish on Sept. 30, 1888, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jesse McKaskle. At 14 years of age she became affiliated with the Baptist Church to which she has been a staunch member. At the time of her death she was a member of Athens Baptist Church. When she was twenty-three she and H. J. Thornton were married. To this union were born five children, all living and with her at the time of her death. Interment was made in the Zion Hill Cemetery on Friday, July 12 at 3:00 p.m. with Rev. Alwin Stokes officiating. Edmonds Funeral Home was in charge. Few people who ever came in contact with Mrs. Thornton did not feel the stabilizing influence of her words of encouragement and works of mercy. Her life was filled with kindly deeds to those who needed her wonderful strength of soul and beauty of spirit. She utilized her cheery words and contagious smile to make others happy. We console the family with the happy thought of her usefulness and successful life that God will truly bless.
