All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** From: December 4, 1969 Winn Parish Enterprise-News American Thanksgiving Day Crash-Accident Near Tullos Kills Four From Winn A 64 year old man and three children, all of Winn Parish, were killed Thanksgiving Day in a firey crash between two pickup trucks near Tullos. The accident occurred at 8:20 p.m. Thursday at the intersection of U. S. Hwy. 84 and La. 125 in LaSalle Parish. Killed in the collision and fire were Ebb Tidwell, 64, of Tullos, and his grandchildren, Dennis R., 10, Ricky G., 8, and Charles R. Tidwell, 12. The family lived in Tullos on the Winn Parish side of Castor Creek. Clayton E. Tidwell, father of the children and driver of the truck, was thrown out by the impact and survived the fire, receiving serious injuries and burns. State Police filed charges of negligent homicide against Johnny Lee Doughty of Tullos. they said Doughty, driving the other truck, was less seriously hurt in the accident. He was released on $ 2,000 bond. funeral services for the four were held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Southern Funeral Home in Winnfield, conducted by the Rev. E. B. Barton. Burial was in Magnolia Cemetery. The children are survived by their parents; maternal grandfather, Charles Johnson, and maternal grandmother, Mrs. Clara Bell, paternal grandmother, Mrs. Chloe Tidwell; maternal great grandmother, Mrs. Lula Newman of Joyce; and paternal great-grandmother Mrs. Eula Cockerham of Tullos. Surviving Ebb Tidwell are his widow; two sons, Craybon and Coston Tidwell, both of New Orleans; a daughter, Mrs. W. O. Holmes, Tullos; five brothers, T. E. Tidwell, South Carolina; A. B. Tidwell, Winnfield; Cecil Tidwell of Georgetown; Sam Tidwell, Tullos, and David Tidwell, Texas; five sisters, Mrs. Annie Keene and Mrs. Wesley White, both of Georgetown; Mrs. James Starks, Dry Prong, Mrs. Irene Peck, Bossier city, and Mrs. Inez Greenwell, Houston, Tex.; and four grandchildren.
