Dr. Finley W. Tinnin, Sr., 74, retired Baptist minister and former editor of the Louisiana Baptist Message, died while on a visit to a son in Oklahoma City, April 21. He had made his home in Shreveport for the past 40 years. Dr. Tinnin served his first full time pastorate at the First Baptist Church in Winnfield from 1918 to 1920, coming here after his discharge from the Armed Forces, World War One. He promoted the building of the present Winnfield Church building, which was under construction when he resigned to become editor of the Baptist Message. Last rites were conducted in Shreveport Wednesday with his son in law, the Rev. Gerald W. Trussell, pastor of the Southside Baptist Church, officiating. Burial was in Forest Park Cemetery. Surviving are his daughter, Mrs. Trussell, Shreveport; two sons, the Rev. Finley W. Tinnin, Jr., Oklahoma City, and Dr. Beverly V. Tinnin, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Meridian, Miss.; three brothers, Col. John V. Tinnin of Harlengen, Tex., and Harold Tinnin of the Panama Canal Zone; and two sisters, Mrs. Charlie Clevenger of Shreveport and Mrs. Ida Taylor of Washington, D. C.
