All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** From: June 6, 1963 Winn Parish Enterprise News-American Ernest Tolbert, Victim; Falling Tree Claims Life of Sikes Man Ernets "Bolt" Tolbert, Sikes, was killed instantly at 6:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 5, by a tree he felled on a logging job in Ward 4. He was 55. Sheriff R. S. Jordan said Tolbert was found pinned under the tree by his brothers Ed and Floyd Tolbert. Jordan said the tree which hit Tolbert first fell into a stooped tree which caused the falling timber to jump up and backwards. All three men were cutting timber 2 « miles west of Cypress Creek Church for Fred Tucker of Sikes, a Hunt Lumber Company logging contractor. Jordan said that Ed and Floyd had shut down their power saws to put gas in them when they heard their brother's saw idling. They went to investigate and found him under the tree. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. today in Friendship (Mineral Springs) Baptist Church west of Sikes. The Rev. Willie James will conduct the services. Other survivors include his wife, a son, Jerry Dale, a daughter, Linda, a sister, Mrs. Lula Carter, a brother, Harvey Tolbert, of Sikes. Burial will be in the church cemetery under direction of Edmonds Funeral Home, Jonesboro.
