All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** From: January 10, 1929 Winn Parish Enterprise Funeral Services Held Sunday For Little Madaliene Trahan Funeral services for little Madaliene Trahan, who died at the Baptist Sanitarium, Alexandria, Saturday, January 5, were held at the First Baptist Church Sunday afternoon, 3 o'clock. Services were in charge of the Rev. Alwin Stokes, of Ferriday, former pastor of the Winnfield Presbyterian Church and intimate friend of the family, and the Rev. S. B. Williams, present pastor of the Presbyterian Church, assisted by the Rev. A. H. Cullen and the Rev. C. C. Wier. A choir composed of singers from choirs of the Presbyterian, Methodist, and Baptist churches, under the direction of Mr. and Mrs. O. W. Gladden rendered beautiful consoling hymns. Miss Ethie Vernon, music teacher of Madaliene, was at the piano. An escort of honor who were classmates of little Madaliene was composed of the following: Louise Carter, Helen Price, Eleanor Campbell, Jena Jackson, Ruth Elaine Harper, and Janella Williams; pallbearers were Jim Scott, Jr., Prentis Cole, A. L. Smith, Jr., and Atwood Davis. There were many and beautiful floral tributes. A large concourse of sorrowing relatives and friends were in attendance. Interment was in the Winnfield Cemetery. Madaliene, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ovey Trahan, was 8 years, 3 months, and 11 days old. She was a talented child, a sweet and loving disposition, and her parents and relatives being held in the highest esteem in the community, she left a multitude of friends to mourn her passing. Madaliene was ill a little more than two weeks. She was carried to the Baptist Sanitarium a week before her death, where it was found she had pneumonia and other complications. The best of medical attentions and loving cared was rendered, but to no relief. She is survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ovey Trahan, grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Austin, uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. C. J. Hastings, of Winnfield; grandmother, Mrs. Trahan of Lafayette; and the following uncles and aunts, brothers and sisters of her father, from New Orleans, Maurice and Lafayette, La.: John, Phillip, Ernest, Henry , Gus, Bienvenue, Louise, and Asame Trahan.
