P. "Pat" Tugwell, 86, a resident of Winnfield prior to his election as Treasurer of Louisiana in 1936, a position he held thirty-two consecutive years, died in a hospital in Baton Rouge, La., Thursday, February 12, 1976. As a young man, before World War One, and until 1929, Mr. Tugwell was employed by the Tremont-Gulf Railway in the Winnfield office. He was first paymaster- timekeeper, and in 1918 was appointed auditor of the railroad. When O. K. Allen, of Winnfield, became Governor of Louisiana, he appointed Mr. Tugwell chairman of the Louisiana Highway Commission, thus launching him in a political career that lasted until his retirement from public office in 1968. Mr. Tugwell's late parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. W. Tugwell, and his deceased brother, Lloyd Tugwell, were residents of Winnfield. Mr. Tugwell is survived by one son, Andrew, of Baton Rouge, La.
