All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** From: July 21, 1960 Winn Parish Enterprise News-American Two Negroes Die In Auto Wreck Saturday Morning Death for two Negroes climaxed a night of drinking and an early morning tear down the narrow, Black Lake road Satruday at 7 a.m. according to a report from a state trooper. Killed in a one car crash were Roger Nichols, 24, and his uncle, Broussard Wyatt, 26, both natives of Tannehill. The accident occurred when the Nichols' vehicle, a 1949 Ford Sedan, missed a curve at the intersection with the Saline Lake road. The car crashed into a 10 foot high embankment, was thrown over the embankment and landed upside down. Critically injured was Pearl Abraham, Lake Charles, who was thrown from the vehicle. The other occupants of the car, Helen Barnes, Lake Charles, and Nichols' wife, Bobbie Jean, were also hurt. All three were rushed to Winnfield General Hospital and from there to Charity Hospital in Pineville. Nichols and Wyatt died when they were pinned under the car. According to state police, the group had been drinking off and on throughout the night. The car, which was completely demolished, was traveling between 75 and 80 m.p.h., police estimate. The Abraham woman's condition is reported critical. The other two are in fair condition. The Nichols car was traveling west toward Goldonna when the accident occurred. Both Twins The two Negroes, one the nephew of the other, is survived by a twin brother. The Wyatt twins, born to Dilton and Caroline Wyatt, now deceased, were born on election day, Sept. 13, 1932 on the Old Uncle Antoine Radescich place, Tannehill. It was one of the hottest rces for the U. S. Senate post by Senator Overton and Senator Broussard. Dr. J. F. Faith, widely known country doctor, who delievered the twins, named them Overton and Broussard after the U. S. Senators from Louisiana. Broussard Wyatt is survived by his twin, Overton Wyatt. Roger Nichols, nephew of the Wyatt twins, is survived by his twin brother, Robert Nichols. Burial for both was Wednesday at Union Hill Church.
