Twitchell Alexander Leonard Twitchell of Dodson, La., fell slightly short of achieving his 1988 wish for a 10 year lease extension on life past his 100th birthday. He died at 10 p.m. Thursday, July 27, 1989, in Lincoln General Hospital in Ruston, La. Mr. Twitchell was subject of a front page feature article in the August 3, 1988 issue of this Winn Parish Enterprise newspaper after he had registered at the Registrar's Office in Winn Parish to be albe to vote in the fall elections. He stated then that he was born on November 11, 1888 in Kosciusko, Miss., moved to North Louisiana as a young man and had since been in and out of the area for the past decades. He first came in 1955 to Winn Parish from Webster Parish where he had worked as a paper baler at the pulp mill in Springhill though he boasted, "I'm an old machinist/millwright." Humorously Mr. Twitchell noted that while the first Republican carpetbagger police jury president in Red River Parish was a Twitchell, the Dodson resident disclaimed kinship. "He was a Yankee," he sneered. Last year he told his interviewer that he had lived alone and managed his own household until about three years ago when he moved in with friends Cecil and Jean Padgett about seven miles west of Dodson. Graveside services for Alexander L. Twitchell were at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 29, in New Hope Cemetery with Bishop Loy Gaar officiating. Burial was under direction of Southern Funeral Home of Winnfield, La. Survivors include one son, Jason Twitchell of Memphis, Tenn.; two daughters, Stella Jonopulos of Chattanooga, Tenn., and Levelle Roberts of Miami, Fla.; and several grandchildren.
