All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** From: August 17, 1939 Winn Parish Enterprise Death Claims Andrew Jackson Taylor, Dodson Former Mail Carrier, Deputy Sheriff, Dies August 11, 1939 Andrew Jackson Taylor, 78 years of age, a former rural mail carrier for 45 years, died at his home in Ward Four, Friday, August 11, 1939, after an illness of two years duration. Funeral services were conducted Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m. at the Gansville Baptist Church with the Rev. S. G. Rodgers of Oakdale, assisted by the Rev. J. W. Buckner, pastor of Jonesboro Baptist Church, and the Rev. W. T. Strain, pastor of the Gansville Baptist Church, officiating. Interment was in the Gansville Cemetery with the Masonic Lodge in charge of the grave ceremony. Acting as pallbearers were grandsons of the deceased: Robert and Jeffie Taylor, Jack, Wayne, Howard, and Joe Fallin. Born at Liberty Hill, Bienville Parish, April 18, 1861, Mr. Taylor moved to Winn Parish in the year 1888. He was married to Miss Emily Mixon and to this union 14 children were born, 13 of whom are still living. Mr. and Mrs. Taylor first made their home at Friendship, Bienville Parish, later moving to Gansville. His wife died on December 25, 1916. Mr. Taylor's second marriage was to Mrs. Bertie Sims Saint, a resident of Hilly, La. "Uncle" Jack, as he was affectionately known by a host of friends, served as a rural mail carrier for 45 or 50 years. At one time he was deputy sheriff of Winn Parish and he also served as justice of the peace of his ward. He was a devout member of the Gansville Baptist Church, of the Masonic Order, and Woodmen of the World. Surviving the deceased are his wife and the following sons and daughters: Mrs. W. D. Temple, Mrs. H. D. Scott, Clyde Taylor, of Dodson; Mrs. Ben Fallin, Mrs. T. J. Lann, of Ruston; Mrs. C. S. Baggett, Mrs. Vera Varble, Archie Taylor, of Shreveport; Roy and Clayton Taylor of Winnfield; Fred Taylor, Jeff Taylor, Floyd Taylor, of Gansville, a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren and a number of great great grandchildren and friends to mourn his death.
