Last Rites For J. L. Underwood Held At Sikes Thursday

Joel Leverett Underwood, 79, of Sikes, died Wednesday at a Columbia clinic
after a brief illness.  He was a retired farmer.

Funeral services were set for 3 p.m. Thursday, January 23, in the Baptist
Church at Sikes with the Rev. John Kitchingham and the Rev. Edward Smith
officiating.

Burial was in the Wright Cemetery under direction of Southern Funeral Home.

Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Nancy Underwood and two sons, Connie and
Lavelle Underwood, all of Sikes; a daughter, Mrs. R. F. Scarborough,
Shreveport; a brother, Lee Underwood, Sr., Sikes; a sister, Mrs. J. J.
Ellerbee, Tallulah; eight grandchildren and one great grandchild.
