Varnell Conducted Mar. 29 Funeral services for Henry R. Varnell, 73, life-long resident of Winn Parish, were held at the home in South Winnfield Wednesday, March 29, with the Rev. Alwin Stokes officiating, assisted by Rev. Glen Smith. Interment was in Winnfield Cemetery. Mr. Varnell died in a Winnfield hospital at 7 a.m. Tuesday, March 28, after an illness of about two years. He was born in Winn Parish March 9, 1877 and had made his home here all his life. He was the son of Rankin Varnell and Mrs. Martha McCullen Varnell pioneer citizens of Winn. He married Miss Minnie Gertrude Curry of Arcadia. He had been a member of South Winnfield Methodist Church for 40 years. Surviving are his widow; two sons, Curtis L. Varnell of Winnfield and Sgt. T. M. Varnell of the U. S. Air Corps; two daughters, Mrs. Addell Kirkpatrick of Hodge and Miss Vivian Varnell of Winnfield; two half sisters and two half brothers; and 10 grandchildren. Pallbearers were Lavelle Kirkpatrick, Frank and Willie Varnell, V. J. Gorham, and Delton Varnell. Honorary pallbearers were Johnny Gorham, Austin Young, Dewey Stroud, Herman Gorham, W. L. Kirkpatrick, Felix Mercer, Henry Gorham, and John Mosley, Sr.
