M. Varnell Tuesday, Oct. 28 William M. Varnell, 73, lifelong resident of Winn Parish, died at his home near Winnfield Sunday night at 12:30. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, October 28, at 10:30 a.m. at the Teagle Cemetery with Rev. C. M. Robinson officiating. Rev. Alwin Stokes assisted with the services. Pallbearers were Dalton Varnell, Mack, Jr., Varnell, Curtis Varnell, Mack Gorham, V. J. Gorham, and Jack Cockerham. In 1897 Mr. Varnell was married to Mary Ann Gorham and to this union eight children were born. Surviving are his wife, four sons, Frank, of Lake Providence; Mack, John, and Willie, of Winnfield; three daughters, Mrs. Myrtle Bass, Mrs. Ola Hyde, and Mrs. Mary Franks, all of Winnfield; one daughter, Martha Ann Sutton, preceded him in death. He also leaves one brother, Henry Varnell, two half-brothers, Bobby and Jake Gorham, two half sisters, Ola Whisonant and Ellen Cockerham, all of Winnfield; 22 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
