Vickers, Age 90, Dies At Home Of Son In Sikes October 2 A. J. Vickers, age 90, known as "Uncle Jack", died at the home of his son, Iley Vickers, in Sikes Saturday afternoon, October 2. Funeral services were held the following day, Sunday, at the home, conducted by W. S. Emmons of Sikes and the Rev. C. B. Gates of Monroe. Interment was in Nelson Cemetery. The deceased was born March 10, 1853 in Mississippi. After moving to Louisiana he engaged in farming and was one of the pioneers in rural mail delivery, carrying the mail from Winnfield to Columbia by way of Newport and Hickory Valley. More than sixty years ago he was married to Miss Catherine Harper and to them ten children were born, six of whom survive. Those surviving are Iley Vickers and Quincy Vickers of Sikes, Esley Vickers of Crowville, Mrs. Nettie Cook of Beaumont, Texas, Mrs. Mellie Jenkins of Albany, La., and Mrs. Ora Youngblood, 24 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Serving as pallbearers were Albert Newsom, C. M. Newsom, Jr., Ellis Babcock, Edd Dearmon, Luther Peters, and E. Adams.
