Vick Succumbs to Long Illness on Tuesday, Sept. 6th Veteran of Civil War is Put to Rest in Local Cemetery James W. Vick, 87, died in the home of Mrs. W. G. Bevill here Tuesday night at 9:30 o'clock. Mr. Vick had been in ill health for about three years but was not taken seriously ill until three weeks ago. Funeral services were held at Mrs. Bevill's home Wednesday afternoon at 3:30 and interment was in the Winnfield Cemetery, the Rev. A. S. Stokes conducting the last rites. Mr. Vick was born in the state of Georgia on January 30, 1844. He served the full four years in the Union army during the Civil War. An ordained minister of the Presbyterian Church, he spend about 35 or 40 years preaching and at the same time doing carpenter work until failing health necessitated his giving up the more strenuous activities. Mr. Vick had been a resident of Winnfield about 35 years. During the last three years he had been practically an invalid. The deceased is survived by five daughters, Mrs. W. C. Bevill and Mrs. R. F. Sharp of Winnfield; Mrs. R. R. Smelley of Bienville, Mrs. Roy Boyett, Frankston, Texas, and Mrs. Maggie Smith, Santa Monica, Calif.
