W. Vick, Age 88 Years, Dies Tuesday Funeral Services Held at Family Residence Wednesday With Rev. Stokes in Charge Died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Dora Bevill, on Tuesday, September 6, at 9:30 p.m., Rev. James W. Vick, aged 88 years, 7 months, and 6 days. Funeral services were held at the family residence at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Rev. Alwin S. Stokes, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, conducted the service. Interment was in the family burial plot in the Winnfield Cemetery. Though practically an invalid for the past three years, Mr. Vick was seriously ill only about three weeks preceding his death. He was born in the state of Georgia, January 30, 1844. He came to Winnfield with his family about thirty-five years ago and has resided here since that time. Just a short time after he moved to Winnfield his wife died. After this sad occurrence he devoted himself to the care of rearing his five daughters, who were all small. Mr. Vick was a member of the Presbyterian Church. Nearly forth years ago he was ordained to the Gospel ministry and for many years he was active as a minister. In addition to his ministerial work he followed the carpenter's trade until failing health forced him to retire from active labor. He was a kind, Christian gentleman and held in the highest esteem by all his associates. During the four years of the war between the states, Mr. Vick served in the Union Army. Surviving the deceased are Mrs. Dora Bevill and Mrs. Nora Sharp, of Winnfield; Mrs. R. R. Smelley, of Bienville; Mrs. Roy Boyett, of Frankston, Texas, and Mrs. Maggie V. Smith, of Santa Monica, Calif.
