Vines, Sr., 82, Of Dodson, Dies In Winnfield Tuesday Retired Farmer Was Native of Hurricane Creek Community L. E. Vines, Sr., 82, of Dodson, a retired farmer, died in a local hospital at 5 p.m. Tuesday, November 6, 1951, following a stroke suffered Monday morning at about 5 o'clock. He had been in ill health for some time. Funeral services were held Thursday at 10 a.m. at the Hurricane Creek Baptist Church near Tannehill with the Rev. J. A. Cockerham officiating, assisted by the Rev. Aaron Gorham. Interment was in the Hurricane Creek Cemetery. Pallbearers were J. L. Mathews, Jim Daily, J. Y. Terry, Paul V. Gaar, Clayton J. Norred, and R. G. Simpkins. Mr. Vines was a native of the Hurricane Creek community and was a member of the Baptist Church there, and also had been a member of the Masonic fraternity. His wife preceded him in death in about 1946. Mr. Vines is survived by four sons, S. N., L. E., Jr., and Earl Vines of Dodson, and L. N. Vines of Winnfield; five daughters, Mrs. Frances Williams of Kelly, Mrs. Tyna Gates of Dodson, Mrs. Christine Wheat of near Monroe, Mrs. Sina Elliott of Monroe, and Mrs. Videlle Roberson of Jonesboro; a sister, Mrs. J. C. Higgs of Dodson, and a half-sister, Mrs. Lula Cockerham of Rayville; two half-brothers, J. B. Vines of Dodson and S. E. Vines of Alexandria; 41 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
