Paul Wade Dies Suddenly At Jena Monday Was a Well Known Newspaper Man, Native of Winnfield J. Paul Wade, editor and publisher of the Jena Times, died Monday night following a few hours illness at his home in Jena. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday afternoon at 4 o'clock at the Baptist Church by the pastor, Rev. B. T. Goodwin. Masonic services were held at the grave in the Jena Cemetery. Mr. Wade is survived by his wife, the former Miss Myra Davis of Ruston; two sons, J. P., Jr., and Billy Dan, and a daughter, Peggy Beth; his mother, Mrs. Cleo Wade of Jena, and three brothers, Jake Wade, formerly of Port Allen, La., but now with the Intertype Corporation, New Orleans; Pat Wade of Tacoma, Washington; Mathew Wade of one of the CCC Camps in Central Louisiana. J. P. Wade was in the newspaper business for the past twenty years, eleven years of that time being spent with the Jena Times as editor and publisher. He also had charge at one time of the Olla-Tullos newspaper. He was a painstaking newspaperman, and took great pride in making his publications the best possible. Born in Winnfield, he received his early education and began newspaper work as an apprentice in the old Winnfield Times. He entered the publishing business with his brother, Jake Wade, at Haynesville, where they published the Haynesville News for several years. From Haynesville he went to Shreveport, where for a time he was a reporter for the Shreveport Times, afterwards reentering the newspaper publishing business. He was connected with newspapers in Arkansas, Colfax, and at Jena. He was past president of the Louisiana Press Association. Mr. Wade took an active interest in civic affairs and was widely known throughout the state. He was related to the Wallace family of Winnfield.
