Walker, Prominent Local Business Man, Dies William James Walker, well known Winnfield businessman, died in a local hospital at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 4, at the age of 61 years, eight months, and two days, following a lengthy illness. Funeral services were conducted in the Hixson Brothers chapel at 3 p.m. Wednesday by Rev. Fred S. Flurry, pastor of First Methodist church, and Rev. C. M. Robinson, pastor of the Downtown Assembly of God Church, and interment was in the Winnfield Cemetery. Mr. Walker is survived by his wife, Mrs. Alma Thompson Walker, whom he married in 1915, and two daughters, Mrs. Sybil Crippen and Mrs. Dorothy Martin, both of Winnfield. He was born on July 2, 1888 in Ward Eight near Goldonna, and moved to Winnfield when he was a young man. He was engaged in the dry cleaning and tailoring business for many years, prior to which he was a taxi operator. Mr. Walker was a member of the Methodist Church and of all the Masonic organizations of Winnfield and members of the Knights Templar fraternity served as pallbearers and escorts for his funeral, and conducted services at the graveside.
