Wallace, Age 85, Dies Monday Night After A Long Illness Father of Mrs. J. L. Calhoun, Member of David Pierson Camp Conf. Vets. W. H. Wallace, 85 year old Confederate Veteran and member of the David Pierson Camp died at the home of his son in Verda Monday night about eight o'clock, following an illness of more than eight months. Mr. Wallace is the father of Mrs. John L. Calhoun of Winnfield and J. E. and D. H. Wallace of Verda. He came to Grant Parish and settled near Verda about forty-one years ago and has been active in the affairs of the section. During the Civil War Mr. Wallace was a member of the Forty-sixth regiment of the Confederate army from Mississippi, in which he served until the close of the war, when he was discharged in 1865. He was a member of the Primitive Baptist Church and funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon conducted by the Rev. Boyd of Colfax with interment in the Mars Hill Cemetery near Montgomery. Attending the funeral from Winnfield were Mr. and Mrs. John L. Calhoun, Miss Myrtle Calhoun, and Mrs. Joy Martin.
