Six children from two to 12 years were at home while their parents visited at a nearby residence. Dead is Edward James Walker, son of Vernon and Lillie Mae Walker. Chief Deputy J. J. Crippen said that the child was struck in the left shoulder and side of the neck by the 16 gauge blast as his nine year old brother, Robert Lee Walker, handled the shotgun. Neither of the boys realized the shotgun was loaded, Crippen said. The older boy was handling a .22 caliber rifle, the deputy explained. The boys' mother had loaded the shotgun several nights ago when she heard a noise in the yard. However, the woman had forgotten about loading the gun. Crippen said Deputy Coroner Dr. James Lashley ruled the death accidental. Funeral services are planned for Sunday with burial in the Friendship Cemetery.
