Wallace, 21, who was killed on August 26 while engaging the enemy in combat at Quang Tri Province in the Republic of South Vietnam. Corporal Wallace entered the service as a United States Marine, June 17, 1967. He received his basic training at Camp Pendleton, Calif., and went to Vietnam last January. The young marine was born in Winnfield, November 17, 1945, the son of Mrs. J. B. Wallace and the late Mr. Wallace. His family received word of his death Friday. The message stated he met instant death from fragmentation wounds to the body from enemy mortar fire. He graduated from Winnfield High School in 1965 and operated the Airport Service Station before entering the service. Besides his mother, Mrs. J. B. Wallace, he is survived by two brothers, Phillip Wallace of Winnfield and Teddy J. Wallace, Pennsgrove, New Jersey; three stepsisters, Mrs. Lillie E. Carter and Mrs. Judy Godek, both of Pennsgrove, New Jersey; and Mrs. Geneva Kusner of Port Arthur, Texas; a number of uncles and aunts. The remains of Corporal Wallace are expected in Winnfield this weekend and arrangements are pending at Southern Funeral Home. Military rites will be conducted and Rev. C. C. Martin will officiate. Interment will be in Gorhamtown Cemetery.
