Waller Military funeral services for Technician Fourth Grade George Reece Waller, who died in a Japanese prison camp in Mukdem, Manchukuo, during World War II, will be held at the New Hope Methodist Church near Dodson at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon, March 19, with the Rev. Troy Kelly, former army chaplain, officiating. Burial will be in New Hope Cemetery under direction of Southern Funeral Home. The remains of T-4 Waller were sent to San Francisco, California, in February and arrived in Winnfield Wednesday afternoon. Members of the Dodson Veterans of Foreign Warrs will serve as pallbearers and will conduct appropriate military services. Waller was missing at the time of the Philippine Island surrender, having fought in the first battle at Corregidor. At the time he was taken prisoner by the Japanese and later was reported to have died in a Jap prison camp. He enlisted in the Army at Barksdale Field in October, 1939, and went overseas October 22, 1941, only a short time before the Japanese attack on the Philippines. He was a graduate of Dodson High School. Among the survivors are his widow; his father, Rev. W. T. Waller of near Dodson; two brothers, Tom Bill Waller of Alexandria and John Paul Waller of Oregon; one half brother, T. A. Waller of DeBerry, Texas; and one half sister, Mrs. Noah Gates of Monroe.
