Susan Maurine Malone Ward, formerly of Montgomery, died May 28, 2004 in a Crowley hospital. She was 89. Funeral services will be held June 1, 3PM at First United Methodist Church of Montgomery with Pastor George McVay III, Dr. Jimmy Walker and Mr. Eugene Love officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Zion Cemetery under the direction of Southern Funeral Home of Winnfield. The family will receive visitors at the church prior to the service. Mrs. Ward was born in Union Parish to Rodell and Sophronia Nolan Malone February 5, 1915. She attended Farmerville schools. She met and married David L. Ward April 23, 1933. Mrs. Ward spent most of her life as a resident of Montgomery where she was active in her church and community. As a member of First United Methodist Church, she served as church treasurer for many years, was an adult Sunday School teacher, a life member of the Women's Society of Christian Service, a delegate to Annual Conference and a member of the Weslyan Service Guild. Mrs. Ward loved fishing, growing flowers and was known for her wonderful chocolate pies. She is survived by two sons: Charles Ward and wife Mona of Crowley and Robert Ward and wife Janis of Waco; two sisters Dhale Love and husband Eugene of Winnfield and Loette McIntosh of Bernice; a brother in law Mitchell Brasher of Farmerville; four grandchildren: Leonard Ward and wife Dawn of Evangeline, Michael Ward and wife Tracy of Jennings, Matthew Ward of Houston and Rebecca Ward of Austin TX; seven great grandchildren: David, Maegan, Jarrad, Ashley, Blanche, Madisyn, Lauryn Ward and numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Ward is preceded in death by her husband David: son David Lynn and his wife Pauline. Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church of Montgomery.
