Ward Is Claimed By Death August 6 Last Rites Were Held At Lilly, La., Tuesday Morning Last rites for S. A. Ward, 60 years, 11 months, and 20 days, who died at the Louisiana Central Hospital Sunday night, August 6, 1939, following a long illness, were held at Mt. Union Baptist Church at Lilly, La., Tuesday at 11 a.m., with the Rev. S. G. Rogers, Rev. D. O. Christian, and Rev. Carlous Rockett, Baptist ministers, officiating. Interment was in the Mt. Union Cemetery. Mr. Ward was born in Union Parish August 16, 1878. He was reared at Lilly, La., and joined the Baptist Church there early in life. At the time of his death he was a member of the First Baptist Church here. About 25 years ago he moved to Winnfield with his family and engaged in the log contracting business. Later he changed his trade to carpentry. Over a year ago he suffered a stroke of paralysis from which he never recovered. Surviving are his wife and the following sons and daughters: Clemon and Charles of Wayland, Ky.; Mrs. A. B. Penny, Houston, Texas; Mrs. E. A. Headricks, Alexandria; Miss Marjorie Ward, Houston, Texas; Mrs. J. L. Ashcroft, San Antonio, Texas; S. A. Ward, Jr., New Orleans, and Mrs. L. F. Clark, Vicksburg, Miss. He also leaves four brothers and three sisters: Charles, Fred, and Ashley of Lilly, La., Felix of Norman, Okla., Mrs. Emma Cook and Mrs. Eula Boatright, Ruston, La., and Mrs. Ora Manning, Lilly, La.
