All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** From: May 11, 1967 Winn Parish Enterprise-News American Last Rites For Herbert Wasson Herbert Spencer Wasson, 59, native of Winnfield, died in an Alexandria hospital Saturday, May 6, 1967 at 1:30 p.m. following a long illness of lung cancer. Funeral services were held in Kramer Chapel Sunday, may 7, with Rev. Lon Tyndall, pastor of Horse Shoe Drive Baptist Church, officiating. Interment was in Alexandria Memorial Gardens, with employees of Bell Telephone Company acting as pallbearers. Born in Winnfield, September 9, 1908, Mr. Wasson graduated from Winnfield High School and Southern College, Lakeland, Florida. He was a football coach and teacher in various schools in Union Parish for 10 years before he joined Southern Bell Telephone Company. From 1948 to 1952 he served as district engineer for Southern Bell in Monroe, and from 1952 to 1958, as district plant manager in Alexandria. At the time of his death, he was state construction supervisor and lived at 6307 Manor Drive, Alexandria. He is survived by his wife, the former Ruth Golden; one son, John J. Wasson, and three grandchildren of Alexandria; two brothers, John McBride Wasson of Atlanta, Ga., and George Wasson, of Little Rock, Ark.; one half brother, Shelton Wasson of New Orleans; five sisters, Mrs. Ida Finlay and Mrs. Kate Meador of Olla, Mrs. Laura Henderson of Lompoc, Calif., Mrs. Avis Norris of Frierson, and Mrs. Eula Curry of Winnfield. He also leaves 15 nieces and nephews.
