The child had been in the water some time before the other boys secured the help of some larger boys chopping cotton in a nearby field, who went into the pond after him. Bobby Schwartz found the body. Dr. S. C. Fittz of Winnfield was called to the scene, but efforts to revive the child proved futile. At the time of the tragedy the mother of Jack was in Winnfield on account of the death of Mrs. Melvin Thomas. Besides the parents, Jack is survived by three smaller sisters, Dale, Gay, and Elizabeth Ann. The grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Mixon and Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Waters, of Dodson, both prominent families in the parish. The mother of the child is well remembered as the former Mrs. Bertha Mixon. Funeral services were conducted at Dodson Thursday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. The Rev. H. Grant, Methodist Protestant minister of Grayson had charge of the rites. Interment was in the Gansville Cemetery. A large concourse of relatives and friends attended.
