L. Waters, 68, Succumbs; Rites Held Tuesday John L. "Shorty" Waters, 68, of Winnfield, died at 5:30 p.m. Sunday, March 7, 1971, at his residence. He was a bookkeeper, a member of the First Methodist Church, and a native of Dodson. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Mearl H. Waters of Winnfield; one son, John H. Waters of Winnfield; one daughter, Mrs. Thomas Dean of Ferriday, and five grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at First Methodist Church with Rev. George Ross, Rev. J. C. Skinner, and Rev. W. R. Gage officiating. Burial was in the Garden of Memories Cemetery under the direction of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Winnfield. Active pallbearers were Sid Nelson, Victor Brinkley, John G. Jackson, Buck McCartney, Jack Henderson, Jim Russell, Matt Milam, and John W. Riley. Honorary pallbearers were George Larson, Phillip Leach, Shirley Jackson, Harvey Rhymes, J. O. Anders, Dr. John McElwee, Lehman Sullivan, Tracy Harrell, Sr., Dr. G. M. Rodgers, C. E. Sherwood, Harley Bozeman, Harper Terrill, W. M. Grigsby, E. L. McGuffee, and Coy Frazier.
