A. Weeks Thursday, 5 P. M. Last rites for Edward Alexander Weeks, 72, who succumbed at his home here Sunday, afternoon, July 4, were held at the family residence, 1104 East Lafayette Street, Thursday at 5 p.m., with the Presbyterian minister, Rev. Alwin Stokes in charge. Interment was in the Winnfield Cemetery. Acting as pallbearers were Judge Cas Moss, Jesse Richardson, Ovey Trahan, Judge R. W. Oglesby, C. B. Cole, Henry Harlan, Fred Pipes, and Will Long. Born in Malvern, Arkansas, July 17, 1871, Mrs. Weeks came to Winnfield in 1903 with the Huey Hodge Lumber Company as construction millwright. On October 29, 1905, he married Miss Emma Peters, third daughter of the late Dr. and Mrs. J. J. Peters. He was a consistent member of the Presbyterian Church, serving as superintendent of the Sunday School for a number of years, and also as a deacon and elder. Aside from being a devout Christian, his standard of morals were the highest. He could be called a model citizen and his life could well be emulated. He leaves besides his wife four sons, E. A., Jr., of Austin, Texas; Joseph A., and Charles, with the U. S. Army on maneuvers in California; and James J. with the Army at Stuart Field, New York. He also leaves four daughters, Mrs. Winfred B. Morgan and Miss Dorothy Weeks, Alexandria; Miss Marjorie Weeks, Baton Rouge; and Mrs. Frank Chapman of Gilette, Wyoming, and five grandchildren.
