Dudley Weeks Is Killed In Mishap On Dugdemona

The body of Dudley Weeks, 19 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Weeks of Ward
Ten, was recovered from Dugdemona Creek about nine hours after his boat had
been located last Saturday at 2 a.m.  He had met an accidental death when his
single barrel 12 gauge shotgun had fired when the trigger hit a cross bar in
the boat, and it was presumed that he fell in the water.  His body was
recovered by searchers who started a hunt Friday night when he failed to come
out of the woods after going on a hunting trip Friday afternoon with two other
youths, John Edward Garrett, 19, and Billy Hattaway, 18.

It was reported that Hattaway and Garrett parted with Weeks about two miles
below there the accident occurred.  They hunted on foot while he proceeded up
the creek in the boat.  When he failed to rejoin them at dark, they came
out, and a search was started later in the night when he did not return.

His body was recovered with hooks by Red Blake about 15 feet from the boat.

Funeral services were conducted Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at the Yankee Springs
Baptist church with Rev. C. M. Robinson and Rev. Aaron Gorham officiating. 
Burial was in Yankee Springs Cemetery.

Acting as pallbearers were John Edward Garrett, Tracy Rushing, Jim Durbin,
Charles Hutto, Clyde Barnette, and Julian Kelley.

The youth is survived by his parents; two sisters, Mrs. Violet Palmer of
Mississippi and Mrs. Christine Briggs of Alexandria; three brothers, Douglas
of Cullen, Billy Wayne and Yvone of Ward 10.
