All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** From: August 21, 1947 Winn Parish Enterprise Mrs. Whisonant, War I Gold Star Mother, Succumbs Mrs. Belle Whisonant, 86, the last World War One Gold Star mother residing in Winnfield, died Saturday at 8 p.m. at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J. T. O'Neal, with whom she made her home. She had been ill for about a month. Funeral services were held at the home Sunday at 4 p.m. with Rev. Alwin Stokes and Rev. Calvin Robinson officiating. Interment was in the Winnfield Cemetery under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home of Jonesboro. Mrs. Whisonant was born in Merryville, La., and moved to Winnfield about fifty years ago, where she has resided since that time. She was the widow of Henry Whisonant, and was one of the oldest residents of Winnfield. She was a member of the Pentecostal Church of Winnfield. Surviving her are two sons, H. C. Whisonant of Winnfield and Louis Whisonant of Monroe, La.; two daughters, Mrs. C. H. Buffington of Omaha, Nebraska, and Mrs. J. T. O'Neal of Winnfield; nine grandchildren and one great grandchild. Pallbearers were three grandsons, L. G. White, Jimmy Whisonant, John O'Neal, and W. C. King, Tommy Wagoner, and Marvin Ray Harrell. Out of town attendants of the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. L. G. White of Monroe, Mr. and Mrs. Louis Whisonant of Monroe, Miss Thelma Williams of Omaha, Nebraska, Mrs. Pep Kirkpatrick and daughter of Hodge, and Mr. and Mrs. E. Woods and daughter, Margaret, of Hodge.
