A. Gresham sawmill. The man was killed as he helped his son, Buster Willis, unload logs at the mill "skidway." Bystanders said the log, being shifted in the air by a cable from the winch on the truck, slipped out of the cable grip after the younger Willis tried to tighten the cable around the log. Willis was hit on the head by the log, which fell from a height of about 12 feet. He also suffered a broken shoulder and a broken left leg. He reportedly died in about three minutes and before aid could be summoned.
