All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** From: January 2, 1969 Winn Parish Enterprise News-American Jake Williams Killed At Plant Injuries sustained in an industrial accident Monday claimed the life of Charles Edwin "Jake" Williams, 29, of Route 2, Winnfield. Mr. Williams, an employee of a local plywood plant, suffered crushing injuries while making adjustments to machinery at about 8 a.m. Monday, December 30, 1968. Funeral services will be held at the Laurel Heights Baptist Church at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Rev. Dick DeBusk officiating, assisted by Rev. C. C. Martin. Interment will be in the Garden of Memories Cemetery under the direction of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home. Full military rites will be conducted. Williams was taken to a local hospital by Winn Ambulance Service and died shortly after arrival to the hospital. He was green chain foreman for the plywood plant. He is survived by his wife, Matilda; his mother, Mrs. Susie B. Williams, a brother, Melvin Williams, all of Winnfield; three sisters, Mrs. W. D. Ricahrds of Winnfield; Mrs. Bertha Oliver, Gadsden, Ala.; Mrs. Lela Mae Hines, Radcliff, Kentucky. Williams was graduated from Winnfield High School, Class of 1958. He served eight years in the Navy and at the end of his term was classified as EM 2. He served several years with the Navy overseas including Japan, China, and the Phillipines. He had been out of service for two years at which time he returned to Winnfield. Pallbearers will be L. C. Franks, Travis Hardy, James Carter, Burl Lasyone, Larry Rogers, and Ralph Shelton. Honorary pallbearers will be Louis Jenkins, Harry Hodge, and Manuel Long.
