Willis Graveside services for Mrs. Bessie Upchurch Willis of Shreveport, La., were conducted at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, April 13, at Centuries Memorial Park. Arrangements were under direction of Centuries Memorial Funeral Home at 8801 Mansfield Road. Mrs. Willis, 86, died Tuesday, April 12, 1988 at Virginia Hall Nursing Home in Shreveport. She was a native of Mineral Springs Community near Jonesboro in Jackson Parish and had been a resident of Shreveport for 64 years where she was a member of the Southside Baptist Church and was a retired postal clerk. Mrs. Willis was predeceased by her husband, Fred Willis, whom she met and married while teaching in the Sikes are of Winn Parish. She is survived by a daughter, June Willis Culpepper and her husband, Jack, of Shreveport; seven grandchildren, Donald L Willis, Jr. of Redwood, Calif.; W. Fred Willis of Strasburg, Va.; Carol Keasler of Lake Charles, La.; Jack H. Culpepper, Jr., Melissa W. Burford, Amanda Owens and Sarah Elizabeth Coradini, all of Shreveport; and 13 great grandchildren; also a niece and nephew of the Winnfield area, Mrs. Margorie Fordham May of Winnfield and Puckett Willis of Sikes.
