Peace Officer Magazine Herbert Willis, Brother Of Mrs. S. Jones, Dies Herbert A. Willis, a former long-time resident of Winnfield and the brother of Mrs. Stella Jones of Winnfield, died Monday of last week at his residence in Baker, La. He had been an employee of the State of Louisiana for many years and had resided in Baton Rouge until a short time before his death. Religious services were conducted Tuesday with the Rev. T. C. Adams officiating, with burial following in Resthaven Gardens of Memory. In addition to his sister of Winnfield, he leaves his wife, Mrs. Gladys Breeland Willis, of Baker; and a brother, Horace L. Willis of Pineville. No. 2 From: Louisiana Peace Officer Magazine (date unknown) In Memoriam Since our last issue, the Louisiana I. A. I. lost one of its five Charter Members. Brother Herbert A. Willis (L.D./I.A.I Member No. 34) passed away at his home in Baker, La., on Monday, October 11th. Born on August 6, 1902, in Winnfield, La., Herbert Andrew Willis was retired from law enforcement at the time of his death. He formerly worked for the Central Louisiana State Hospital and Training School in Pineville, La., was a prison farm foreman at the Louisiana State Penitentiary in Angola, La., and served as a state policeman (Troop A) from April, 1943 to May, 1968. Following his retirement from the state police, he worked for Pinkerton's National Detective Agency in Baton Rouge. An understudy of Lt. Ludlow B. Baynard, Mr. Willis was also a Document Examiner for the Motor Vehicle Bureau and did related work for a number of Baton Rouge attorneys during his career. Governors Robert Kennon and Jimmy Davis both appointed him a Colonel on their respective staffs (in 1953 and 1961), as an Aide de Camp. Mr. Willis joined the Louisiana Division of the I. A. I. in 1945 as a Charter Member and has been a Live Active Member of our State Chapter for the past six years. He was also a member of our parent organization since March, 1944. "The Identification Officer" extends its most heartfelt condolences to his surviving widow, Mrs. Gladys Breeland Willis, in her hour of bereavement. He will be sadly missed by all of his many friends in our organization.
