Willis Services for Lawrence Hardy Willis of Oak Grove, La. were held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, April 6, at First United Methodist Church in Oak Grove with the Rev. George Sherman officiating. Burial was in the Oak Grove Cemetery under direction of Fox Funeral Home of Oak Grove. Mr. Willis, 80, died Monday, April 4, 1988, at Schumpert Medical Center in Shreveport, La., following a long illness. He was a member of the Oak Grove Town Council and the Oak Grove Zoning Commission, a member of First United Methodist Church of Oak Grove and a former Sunday School teacher and Sunday School superintendent. Mr. Willis received a bachelor of science degree from La. Tech and a master of arts degree from L. S. U. from 1924-28. He was a member of the La. Tech baseball and football teams. Mr. Willis served from 1928-29 as assistant principal and coach at Arcadia High School; 1929-33 as assistant principal and coach at Trout-Goodpine High School; 1933-1949 as principal at Kilbourne High School; 1949-66 as supervisor of West Carroll Parish Schools and 1966-70 as superintendent of West Carroll Parish Schools. He was also past president of West Carroll Principals Association; past president of the West Carroll Teacher Association; past president of La. School Supervisors Association and past vice president of the 5th District Supervisors Association. Mr. Willis was a past master and member of the Oak Grove Masonic Lodge No. 284 F. & A. M. and was past president and member of the Oak Grove Lions Club. He was predeceased on February 9, 1984 by his wife, the former Valerie Baker of Winnfield. Both Mr. and Mrs. Willis were retired simultaneously from the public school system, he as superintendent of West Carroll Parish Schools and she as a third grade teacher. Survivors are a son, William L. "Bill" Willis of Winnfield; a daughter, Valerie W. Kimbell of Tallulah, La.; four grandchildren, including Lawrence James "Larry" and Laura Ann Willis of Winnfield. Memorials may be made to the Lawrence H. Willis Scholarship Fund, West Carroll Parish School Board, Oak Grove, La.
