J. Willis, 78, Winn Native, Dies In Bossier City Funeral services for P. J. Willis, 78, of 212 Adair St., Bossier City, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday in Rose-Neath Funeral Home Chapel, Bossier City. Dr. James Middleton, pastor of the First Baptist Church will conduct the services. He will be assisted by Dr. W. H. Sims. Burial will be in the Forest Park Cemetery. Mr. Willis died at 5:40 p.m. Monday, March 29, 1971, in his residence after a lengthy illness. He was born at Hebron, Winn Parish, and attended Louisiana Tech and Louisiana Normal College (now Northwestern State). He was the principal of schools in Wisner and Spearsville. After World War I Army duty, he entered the mercantile and cotton buying business with his brother, the late State Senator Ernest C. Willis of Sikes. Later he was associated with Gilligan-Shipley Naval Stores as manager of commissaries and personnel. Mr. Willis moved to Shreveport in 1925. He was associated with the Post Office and served in Shreveport and Bossier City. He later became head of the Postal Department of Barksdale Air Force Base. He held this position until he retired in 1961. A member of the First Baptist Church and the Triple Triangle Sunday School class, Mr. Willis was a past commander of Doty-Somner American Legion Post and a past district commander of the Boy Scouts of American, Norwela Council. He was an active member of Postal Supervisors Organization. Survivors are his widow, the former Myrtle Bozeman; one daughter, Mrs. Eldridge Estes of Mason City, Iowa; one son, Dr. J. B. Willis of Ringgold; two sisters, Mrs. Alpha Kidd of Shreveport, Mrs. T. D. Hunter of Mountain Home, Ark.; four brothers, Sam Willis and Jack Willis, both of Shreveport, Lloyd Willis of Baton Rouge and James Willis of Longview, Texas; four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
