Accident Near Jordan Hill; Head-On Collision Fatal To Georgetown Woman

A 59 year old woman identified by state police as Mrs. George (Bill) Williams
of Rt. 1, Georgetown, was killed about 8:25 a.m. Friday in a head-on collision
about 11.4 miles southeast of Winnfield.

Troopers A. W. Warren and Marlin Connor said Mrs. Williams apparently lost
control of her car going around a sharp curve and went into the left hand side
of the road into the path of a truck loaded with hay.

Warren reported the Williams car was traveling west at about 30 miles per hour
on Hwy. 472, 3.8 miles east of the intersection of U. S. 167, when it was
struck by the truck drive by James E. Womack, 24, Rt. 1, Winnfield.  Womack
was uninjured, troopers reported.

The automobile was considered to be a total loss, while he estimated the
damage to the truck at $ 1,000.

Last Rites

Mrs. Williams, who was the former Mae Long, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs.
Rich Long, was an employee of Autumn Leaves Nursing Home.  She was a member of
the Beulah Baptist Church and was the widow of the late George Williams.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Beulah Baptist Church with
burial in the Zion Cemetery under direction of Southern Funeral Home.  Nephews
served as pallbearers.

Survivors are one son, Basil Williams of Winnfield; four daughters, Mrs. Oleta
Roberts of Orange, Texas; Ms. Camelia Barrett of Pineville; Mrs. Wanda Wooten
of Georgetown; and Mrs. Donna Jordan of Jordan Hill; two stepsons, Drew
Williams of Georgetown and Rev. Milton Williams of Wisner; two sisters, Mrs.
Woodrow W. Melton of Winnfield and Mrs. Johnny Bassett of Shreveport; and 12
grandchildren.
