All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** From: February 26, 1948 Winn Parish Enterprise Former Winnfield Youth Fatally Injured In Wreck Mac Henry Welch, 21, of Natchitoches, former Winnfield resident and veteran of World War II, died Friday, February 20, in the St. Landry hospital in Opelousas from injuries sustained in a car wreck near Lafayette Thursday night. Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Natchitoches Methodist Church with the Rev. D. W. Poole officiating. Burial was in Fern Park Cemetery, Natchitoches. Surviving are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred E. Welch, of Natchitoches, six brothers (only three listed in obit), Carlos, O. K., Sam, and Jimmy, all of Natchitoches; and five sisters, Freddie Lee, Theda Barra, Yvonne, Reba Rose,, and Karen, of Natchitoches. The Welch family lived in Winnfield for several years. Mac had served three and one-half years in the U. S. Navy and had received his discharge on January 13, 1948. He had enrolled as a pre-engineering student at Northwestern State College this semester.
