All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** From: January 1, 1948 Winn Parish Enterprise Last Rites Held December 27 For Rufus Shelby Walsh Rufus Shelby Walsh, Sr., 69, well known Winnfield resident, died at the Baptist Hospital in Alexandria on Friday afternoon, December 26, after a lengthy illness. Funeral services were held at the Winnfield Methodist Church at 3 p.m. Saturday, December 27, with Rev. Fred S. Flurry officiating. Burial was in Winnfield Cemetery under direction of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home. Masonic services were conducted at the grave and members of the Masonic Lodge served as pallbearers. Mr. Walsh was born in Lebanon, Tennessee on Dec. 23, 1877, and moved to Winnfield in 1907. Since that time he has engaged in a number of business enterprises, principally sawmill, retail hardware, and the furniture business. He was a prominent civic leader, having served on the school board of trustees, the Winnfield City Council, and as city clerk. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Bessie Tannehill Walsh; five sons, Rufus Shelby, Jr. of Kilgore, Texas; Richard L. and George S. of Urania; Joe D. of Mobile, Ala., and Donovan H. of Winnfield; and one sister, Mrs. Fay Baker of Ruston. Members of the Masonic Lodge who served as pallbearers were W. U. Drewett, Welby Willis, Rayford Lewis, Dudley Shell, J. W. Kennedy, and D. L. Hofmann.
