Womack, 42, Accident Victim, Succumbs Monday Injuries received in an accident near Winnfield Thursday afternoon at about 5 o'clock, were fatal to A. A. Womack, about 42 years of age, of Jonesboro, who died at the Baptist Hospital in Alexandria Monday morning. He suffered a brain concussion, and it was reported that one of his ribs pierced his lungs. He never regained consciousness. Mr. Womack lost control of his 1942 Ford while driving across the dike at Port de Luce as he was enroute from Winnfield to Jonesboro during a heavy rain. It is believed that the water, which had collected on the highway, splashed on the windshield and blinded him. His car ran off the highway and crashed into a telephone pole before landing in a nearby sluice. A group of seismograph workers rescued Mr. Womack from the water, and summoned an ambulance which carried the injured man to the Mosley Clinic in Winnfield. He was later carried to the Baptist Hospital in Alexandria where he died. Funeral services were held for Mr. Womack Thursday afternoon at 3 o'clock at the high school auditorium in Jonesboro and burial was in the Jonesboro Cemetery. He was owner of the Fort Motor Company of Jonesboro. Mr. Womack is survived by his wife, May Womack, of Jonesboro; two sons, Thomas Womack of the U. S. Navy, serving somewhere in the Pacific; and James Louis Womack of Jonesboro; one daughter, Anne Womack of Jonesboro; and three brothers, two of whom reside in Jonesboro and one in Texas.
