Woods, 82 years of age died at his home in Montgomery Tuesday January 17th, and was buried at the Mt. Zion Cemetery Wednesday evening January 18th. Mr. Woods was reared in ward eight Winn Parish, was a son of Captain Robert Woods, who was prominently identified with the early history of this parish. Mr. Woods was for a number of years, one of the leading farmers of this parish, he also was engaged in the saw mill and mercantile business for a number of years, and during his early life was active in the civic and political affairs of his parish and state. He was a veteran of the Colfax Riot, and was one of those men who helped put an end to the carpetbag regime in Louisiana, and return the right of suffrage to the white Democrats of Louisiana. About 30 years ago he moved to Grant Parish and was engaged in the mercantile business for a number of years, was later appointed Parish Demonstration agent, a position he held for six years. Mr. Wood joined the Baptist Church in early life and had been a deacon for over fifty years, he also had served as treasurer of his Masonic Lodge for over thirty years. He is survived by his wife, and one son, Arthur Woods, of Montgomery, two sons had preceded him to the grave, W. S. Woods and Dr. C. E. Woods. He is survived by a number of grandchildren.
