D. Wood, 25, Held Monday Succumbs In Shreveport Sunday After Year's Illness Last rites for J. D. Wood, 25, who died in a Shreveport hospital Sunday, February 26th, after a year's illness, were held at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. M. Wood, Monday morning at 10 o'clock, with Rev. Alwin Stokes, pastor of the Winnfield Presbyterian Church, in charge. Interment was in the local cemetery. Acting as pallbearers were Houston Smith, Melvin McQuiddy, Joe Grigsby, Teal Calhoun, Hovey Harrell, and Grisham DeLoach. Born in Dodson, La., April 10th, 1914, J. D. moved to Winnfield with his parents while still an infant. He attended the local high school and was a member of the football squad. In the past several years he has been employed by the Louisiana Highway Commission and in a Zwolle drug store, until his health became impaired. He was a member of the Winnfield Christian Church. He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. M. Wood; two sisters, Mrs. Herbert Garrard of Converse, La., and Mrs. O. B. Thompson of Winnfield; and six brothers, Otis of Winnfield, Sam of Shreveport, Willie of Winnfield, John of Converse, Sanford of Gilbert, and Lee of Winnfield.
