Wood Laid To Rest In Local Cemetery Wed. Succumbs at His Home Here Monday Morning After Long Illness James Thomas Wood, aged 70 years, 7 months, and 18 days, died Monday at 2:40 o'clock at his home here after a long illness. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 3:00 o'clock at the First Methodist Church, with the Rev. Ellis Smith, pastor, in charge. He was assisted by the Rev. A. H. Cullen, Baptist minister, and the Rev. Alwin Stokes, Presbyterian minister. Interment was in the Winnfield Cemetery. A host of relatives and friends attended the last rites. Pallbearers were C. L. Smith, Joe Stothart, P. K. Abel, J. F. Lovell, J. M. Hyde, John Emerson, Dr. F. C. Wren, and Albert Nugent. Mr. Wood was born in Cass County, Texas, April 24, 1862. He moved to Winnfield with his family in 1905 and was engaged for yeas in the mercantile business and the lumber business. He was prominent in civic and social circles and was a devout member of the Methodist faith, serving for years as one of the church stewards of the First Methodist Church, and recently was made an honorary member of that body. Mr. Wood is survived by his wife, who before marriage was Margaret Irene Croom. The children of this marriage are Mrs. H. J. Powers of Alexandria and Mr. Charles Wood of El Paso, Texas. Three brothers and three sisters survive. They are John and Thomas Wood of Queen City, Texas; C. R. Wood, Mercedes, Texas; Mrs. John Hooper, Paris, Texas; Mrs. Lula Kennedy and Mrs. Eula Barnwell, Atlanta, Texas.
