Death of Gen. Thos. S. Woodward
   We are deeply pained to learn, this morning, by letter 
from Mr. J. D. Strother, that our old and valued friend, 
Gen. Thos. S. Woodward, died, after a long and painful 
illness, at his residence in Winn Parish, Louisiana, at 
five o’clock on the morning of the 4th inst.
   Thus has passed away, the spirit of one of nature’s 
nobleman—one who was both a soldier and a patriot.  He was 
born in Elbert county, Georgia, about the year 1796, but 
the greater part of his life was spent in Alabama.  His 
only surviving child is Col. Thomas Woodward, of Louisiana.
   In our next Weekly, in accordance with the wish of our 
old Friend’s family and friends, we shall publish an 
obituary notice—Montgomery Mail.
