Wright, deputy sheriff of Winn Parish for the past eight years, died at his home here Thursday afternoon, January 5th, following an illness of slightly more than a month. Mr. Wright was prominent in civic and political circles of Winn Parish and was a member of one of the pioneer families of this section. JOHN M. WRIGHT DIES AFTER BRIEF ILLNESS THURSDAY Funeral Services Held at Family Residence on Friday Afternoon John M. Wright, deputy sheriff of Winn Parish, died at 5:30 o'clock Thursday afternoon of the last week, following a short illness at his home here. For the past several months he had been in failing health but his condition was thought to be greatly improved and he resumed his duties at the sheriff's office. A little more than a week before his demise he suffered a throat hemorrhage while walking home after which he was confined to his bed. He was known throughout this section as Johnnie Wright, and since early manhood had been affiliated with the civic and political life of Winnfield and Winn Parish. He was a member of the Long-Wright families of this section of Louisiana, his mother being a sister of the late Huey P. Long, Sr., and aunt of the late Huey P. Long, Jr., United States Senator from Louisiana, and the present Lieutenant Governor Earl K. Long. Mr. Wright was one of Winn's favorite sons, which was evidenced by the large attendance at the funeral services that were held at the family residence on Friday afternoon at three o'clock. Many of his colored friends were present to pay their last respects to him who had befriended them on may occasions. The last rites were conducted by the Rev. Dr. B. C. Land, pastor of the First Baptist Church, assisted by the Rev. G. A. Morgan, pastor of the First Methodist Church, and the Rev. Alwin Stokes, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, after which interment was made in the Winnfield Cemetery. Surviving immediate family members of his family are his mother, Mrs. Alice Wright, James D. Wright of Winnfield, Dr. Roy Wright of New Orleans, and W. H. Wright of Baton Rouge, brothers; and three sisters, Mrs. E. B. Harrel of DeQuincy, Mrs. Douglas Harrell of New Orleans, and Mrs. N. C. Dalton of Winnfield. Pall bearers serving at the funeral services were Judge Cas Moss, Sheriff Bryant Sholars, J. E. Carter, G. M. Walsworth, Bill Wagoner, Everett Felix, Joe T. Terrill, and P. Hugh Mercer. Among the out of town friends and relatives attending the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Wade Long of Jackson, Mr. and Mrs. Willie Long of Trees, Mr. and Mrs. A. G. Corbett of Gilbert, Mrs. T. A. Scott of Winnsboro, Mrs. Lottie Davis of Ruston, Dr. and Mrs. Parrott of Ansley, Mr. and Mrs. C. A. White and Mrs. Bessie Creed of Pineville, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Fowler of Shreveport, Mrs. Ben Johnson and Mrs. H. R. Moore of Shreveport, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Eagles and Mr. and Mrs. Leck Nugent of Alexandria, Mrs. Sina Whitecotton of Shreveport, Sidney Tannehill of Shreveport, Dr. and Mrs. S. G. Long and Lee Melton of Monroe, A. P. Tugwell, Lt. Gov. Earl K. Long, J. H. Junot and B. C.
