The Southern Sentinel (Winnfield, LA), Friday, March 25, 1904
Mrs. Mary Young, wife of Ro[ber]t Young, departed this life March 19, 1904. The 
husband preceded her Aug. 27, 1892. The deceased was inter[r]ed in the New Hope 
cemetery by the side of her husband.

Deceased was born Aug. 25, 1825, in the state of Mississippi. After her marriage 
to Robert Young she moved to Louisiana before the civil war, where she has since 
lived. She embraced the Christian religion when young, accepting Christ as her 
counsellor and guide. Her every word and act were living witnesses of her 
regeneration, and that there is truth in the religion of our Lord. She died as 
she lived, a true Christian.

She leave many friends and relatives to mourn her loss, among whom are two sons 
and two daughters. 

All who attended her burial deeply felt the solemnity of the occasion and freely 
mingled their tears of sympathy with the sorrowing relatives. We must remember, 
however, there is no life without a death and that in dying she has been 
transported to a higher and nobler life where she will receive the reward kept 
for those who die in the triumph of a living faith, and where she will live 
through eternity basking in the smiles of a loving Savior. Truly the deceased 
could say "I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept 
the faith, henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness." Let us 
take her life as our guide, and like her live for the good we can do in this 
life and for eternity.

Additional Comments:
Mrs. Young's grave marker in New Hope Cemetery is inscribed with April 15, 1903 as 
her death date, which is clearly erroneous per the above obituary.
