Reeves Ann Arledge Riser Cordelia Marie Wilkinson =================================================================== April 4, 1930 James Cade, Age 83, Dies While On Visit to Bernice James, aged 83, passed away at the home of his son at Bernice, Tuesday night, April 1, at 9 o'clock. Mr. Cade, who has made his home here with his daughter, Mrs. J. L. Price, for the past year, was on a visit when stricken by his fatal illness. Funeral services were held at the Antioch Cemetery near Eros Wednesday afternoon at 3 o'clock. Those attending the funeral services from Winnfield were Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Price and family, Mr. and Mrs. L. C. Carter, Rev. Alwin Stokes, Ben Price, and Mesdames Walter Maxwell and Nora Regan. ======== July 18, 1930 Mrs. Mary E. Evans Of Sardis Dies At Daughter's Home Mrs. Mary Jane Evans, age 88, died Sunday evening, July 13, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J. L. Shelton. The entire community was shrouded in gloom with the passing of this noble Christian character. She united with the Sardis Baptist Church at an early age and joyfully spent her time in service for the Lord whom she loved. In the death of Grandmother Evans, her children lose a kind and loving mother, her friends a loyal advisor, and her Church a staunch worker. Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. W. D. Sherwood at the Baptist Church. Interment was made in the Sardis Cemetery. Besides a host of friends, Mrs. Evans leaves to mourn her departure one son, G. W. Evans, three daughters, Mrs. J. L. Shelton and Mrs. John Shelton of Sardis, and Mrs. Ben Sermons of Montgomery, a large number of grandchildren, great grandchildren, and one great, great grandchild. ======== October 10, 1930 Mrs. Fitzgerald of Monroe Is Laid To Rest Here Sun. Mrs. L. Z. Fitzgerald, who died in her home in Monroe Saturday, was buried in Winnfield Sunday afternoon. Mrs. Fitzgerald was a former resident of Winnfield. She had been confined to her bed for almost two years with tuberculosis and had been very ill for two weeks prior to her death. The body was brought to Winnfield Sunday afternoon where the funeral services were held at the Baptist Church. Rev. P. O. Moffett accompanied the bereaved family to Winnfield and conducted the services. He was assisted by Rev. A. H. Cullen. Mrs. Fitzgerald is survived by her husband and four little children, her father, and several sisters and brothers. ======== William Barrett Howell March 28, 1930 W. B. Howell, son of Mrs. S. F. Howell, was killed in boiler explosion Oklahoma City February 22. He was blown through a two inch wall breaking left arm and crushing skull and died twelve minutes after explosion. Mr. Howell was born near Bolivar, Tenn., and his parents moved to Packton when he ws three years old. His remains were shipped to Cotton Valley where funeral services were completed and interment made in that cemetery. He was a member of the Masonic Fraternity and of the Baptist Church at Cotton Valley and an ardent worker in both. Besides a host of friends he leaves to mourn his loss his mother, Mrs. S. F. Howell and six brothers and seven sisters, Mrs. Grady Howell, Hughie Howell, and Mrs. J. W> Stell of Cotton Valley; F. R. Howell, Girard, La., R. N. Howell, Tullos, La., B. D. R. Long, Winnfield, La. ======== June 6, 1930 Mrs. T. C. Kidd of Gaars Mill Dies Saturday Night Mrs. T. C. Kidd, age 60 years, of Gaars Mill was discovered dead in her bed Saturday night about ten o'clock. Her death was supposedly caused by heart trouble. She was buried at the New Hope Church Sudnay afternoon at four o'clock. Rev. ?. E. Hearn of Chatham conducted the funeral services. Mrs. Kidd is survived by her husband and two sons, T. C. Kidd, Jr., and Victor Kidd, both of Gaars Mill. ======== July 25, 1930 T. C. Kidd Dies At His Home In Hudson Monday T. C. Kidd, aged 72, of Hudson, died Monday, July 21, at his home. He was stricken with paralysis and died after an illness of two weeks. Mr. Kidd was born in Georgia and came to Winn Parish when a very young child. He is a member of the Methodist Protestant Church. Funeral services were held at the New Hope Cemetery near Gaars Mill where interment was made Tuesday afternoon. Mr. Kidd is survived by five sons: Grover and Iverson Kidd of Sikes; Harrison Kidd of Georgetown; and T. C. and Victor Kidd of Hudson; four daughters: Mrs. Ella Peters, Cedar Grove; Mrs. Virginia Brewer and Mrs. Della Brown of Hudson; and Mrs. Willard Eldriege of Crowville; three brothers, J. L. and I. B. Payne of Hudson; and J. B. Payne of Leesville; and one sister, Mrs. H. S. Peters of Summerfield. ========= June 13, 1930 Marilyn Leonard, Age 16, Dies In Manchuria, May 14 The many friends of Rev. and Mrs. Charles A. Leonard, missionaries in Harbin, Manchuria, are sympathizing with them in the loss of their sixteen year old daughter, Marilyn, who died May 14th. Mrs. R. H. Fletcher received a letter last week from her sister, Mrs. Leonard, bringing the sad news. The people of Winnfield will recall having heard Brother Leonard speak on several occasions at the Baptist Church. Heartfelt sympathies are extended to Mr. and Mrs. Leonard in their sorrow. ======== November 7, 1930 Mrs. Ella T. Magee Dies In New Orleans Thursday Morning Funeral Services This Afternoon At Three Thirty O'clock From Train Funeral services for Mrs. Ella Teddlie Magee, age 72 years, who died Thursday morning in New Orleans will be held this afternoon at three o'clock conducted by the Rev. C. C. Weir of the First Methodist Church. Mrs. Magee, who has been in failing health for two years or more was taken to New Orleans about three weeks ago for medical treatment. The body will arrive this afternoon over the L. & A. Railroad and taken from the train directly to the Winnfield Cemetery for interment. Mrs. Magee who before her marriage to the late J. C. Magee was Miss Ella Teddlie, was born in Florida and moved to Winn Parish when quite small. Her entire life has been spent in Winn Parish, part of the time near Montgomery, but most of the time in Winnfield. During her active years she was identified with all the community activities. She is the daughter of the late W. J. and Martha Mathis Teddlie, progenitors of one of the most influential and best known families of the state of Louisiana. Mrs. Magee is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Ethleen Riser of Winnfield, Mrs. Josie Coates and Mrs. James Cravens of Los Angeles, California, one sister, Mrs. Mary Jackson of Hargis, one half sister, Miss Cora Teddlie of Coushatta, one half brother, J. W. Teddlie of Winnfield. ======== August 8, 1930 Mrs. Alwin Stokes' Mother Dies At The Hospital In N. O. Mrs. G. A. McIlhinny, mother of Mrs. Alwin Stokes, died at the Baptist Hospital in New Orleans August 4. Rev. Stokes and son George left Tuesday morning for Forest, Miss., where funeral services were held. Mrs. McIlhinny is survived by two sons, George and Oliver, one daughter, Elizabeth (Mrs. Alwin Stokes), and her hu8sband, Dr. George McIlhinny. ========== August 8, 1930 Dexter Puckett, 7, Dies At The Home Of Frank Scott Dexter Puckett, age 7 years, son of D. A. Puckett of Houston, Texas, died Tuesday morning at the home of Frank Scott of Winnfield. He was ill only a few days before he died. The child was born in Beaumont, Texas but has lived in Winnfield for the past few months. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. A. H. Cullen at the home of Mr. and Ms. Frank Scott. Interment was made in the Winnfield Cemetery. The child is survived by his father, D. A. Puckett, one sister, Lois, and one brother, Charles. ========== June 27, 1930 A Tribute to The Memory of W. H. Reeves of Atlanta The subject of this sketch was born in Alabama seventy-seven years ago. He moved with his parents to Louisiana when an infant, and has lived in three parishes, Natchitoches, Winn, and Grant. He was the father of twelve children, four of them preceded him to the grave. Uncle Billy, as he was known to his neighbors and friends, has been a staunch soldier of the cross for sixty three years, having united with the M. E. Church at Atlanta when only twenty four years old. He lived a quiet life. His home was his haven and he was ever at his post of duty. While on his death bed with friends and loved ones gathered around him, praying for the Father to heal him if it could be. His will and if not, to lessen his suffering, his voice just audible, coule be heard shouting, "Hallelujah." Family and friends what a testimony! He leaves to mourn his loss, a wife and eight children, a host of grandchildren, relatives, and friends. His children are Columbus Reeves of Appleby, Texas; Lee, Ebben, and Wesley Reeves of Montgomery, La.; Mrs. Please Blake of Dallas, Texas; Mrs. Jesse Terrell, Mrs. Ruby Ling, and Miss Ella Reeves of Montgomery. ============== February 7, 1930 Mrs. H. M. Riser Dies Wednesday at Cedar Grove Home Mrs. H. M. Riser, 79, the mother of H. C. Riser, died at her home at Cedar Grove Wednesday. Mrs. Riser was before her marriage Miss Ann Arledge of Winnfield. She has lived at Cedar Grove for sixteen years. She is survived by three daughters, Miss Della Riser, Mrs. E. O. Lites, and Mrs. Illa Ranney of Shreveport, and two sons, H. C. Riser of Winnfield and S. M. Riser of Shreveport. Nine grandchildren survive her. Interment was made at the Forest Park Cemetery following services at the Southside Baptist Church, conducted by Rev. C. A. Voyles. ============== July 4, 1930 Mrs. A. B. Wilkinson Dies At Daughter's Home Friday 27th Mrs. Delia Marie Wilkinson, years of age, died at home of her daughter, Mrs. Virgil Crippen, Friday, June 27, after an illness of three months. Mrs. Wilkinson was born at Fayetteville, Ala., October 26, 1870. At the age of 18 she married George Porter. Of this union two children were born, Connie and Hattie. After the death of Mr. Porter, she moved to Texas where she married A. B. Wilkinson in 1900. One child was born to this union, Estelle. Mr. Wilkinson died Nov. 19, 1926. After his death she moved to Winnfield where she made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Virgil Crippen, until her death Friday. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at four o'clock at the First Baptist Church. Rev. A. H. Cullen assisted by Rev. Alwin Stokes, conducted the services. Interment was made in the Winnfield cemetery. Mrs. Wilkinson is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Virgil Crippen, Winnfield, Mrs. Frank Crippen, Farmerville, and Mrs. John Bishop, Dermott, Ark. She also leaves eight grandchildren. ========
