Branch Held Monday, 18th Former Resident Gaars Mill Is Buried at Harmony Grove Funeral services for George Washington Branch, who died at Chatham, Sunday, December 17th, were held at Harmony Grove Church at Gaars Mill on Monday afternoon at two o'clock conducted by the Rev. J. N. Winegart of Chatham. Prior to his residence at Chatham about three years ago Mr. Branch lived at Gaars Mill, Winn Parish, all his life and where he was born June 29, 1877, the son of William and Lidia Branch. He was a farmer until about a year ago when he became an employee of the Louisiana Highway Commission at Chatham. He was married to Miss Louella Dark November 14th, 1900 and to them 11 children were born, ten of whom survive, the other was claimed by death while an infant. He was a member of the Chatham Baptist Church. Surviving Mr. Branch are his widow, ten children, Mrs. Elvie N. Tarochione, Mountain View, Okla., Mrs. Irene Harvester, Chatham, Stanley Branch, Sikes, Mrs. Daisy Allen, Mrs. Marie Tarver, Zenoria, Mrs. Cortence Adams, Gaars Mill, Florence Branch, Georgia Branch, Robert Branch, Francis Joy Branch, Chatham; four brothers, P. E. Branch, Montgomery, Mack L. Branch, Winnfield, Wright Branch, Baton Rouge, A. S. Branch, Winnfield; two sisters, Mrs. Henry Davis, Montgomery, Mrs. J. L. Tugwell, Winnfield; three half brothers, Jim Lee, Gaars Mill, L. L. Lee, Dodson, and Chester Lee, Belcher. ============== January 19, 1934 C. M. Swanson, Age 59 Years, Dies at His Home Thurs. Funeral Services to Be at 2:30 O'clock at First Baptist Church Carl M. Swanson, age 59, prominent business man, died at his home here Thursday morning at 4 o'clock after an illness of several weeks. Mr. Swanson was born in Denmark, fifty nine years ago, and at an early age went to Holland, where he lived to young manhood. In 1892 he came to the United States and was engaged in the timber business in various sections of Louisiana and Mississippi. In 1910 he went into the restaurant business in Winnfield and was engaged in that business at the time of his death. He married Miss Annie Machen of Winnfield and to that union was born four children, Jewel, Lamar, Clyde, and Annabelle. Jewel, Lamar, and Annabelle preceded him to their graves. Mrs. Swanson is survived by his widow and one son, Clyde, of Winnfield. He also leaves two sisters in Denmark and one brother in Dodson, Louisiana. He was an uncle of Dr. Dewitt Milam of Monroe. Funeral services will be conducted at the First Baptist Church here today at 2:30 o'clock. Rev. B. C. Land, pastor of the First Baptist Church, Rev. Ellis Smith, pastor of the Methodist Church, and Rev. Alwin Stokes, pastor of the Presbyterian Church, will officiate. Interment will be in the Winnfield Cemetery. ===================== April 20, 1934 Dies At Her Home At Sikes Tuesday Mrs. Onie Thompson, age 42, died at her home at Sikes Tuesday night following a lingering illness of more than a year. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at five o'clock at Hurricane Grove Church conducted by Rev. Joe Adams and interment was made in the church cemetery. The deceased was a member of the Hurricane Grove Baptist Church. She was the widow of the late Chester Thompson of Sikes, and is survived by eight children, Mrs. Arnold Walker, Hester, Ray, Charles, Herman, Arnold, Georgia May, all of Sikes, and Ira Abrams, Shreveport, one sister. Mrs. W. J. Walker and Mrs. J. C. Thompson, relatives of the deceased, attended the funeral Wednesday afternoon. ========
