News was received here this week of the death of Addyce Hyckenbottom, former resident of Winnfield, in Tacoma, Wash., on Monday of this week. Funeral arrangements had not been learned up to Thursday night and it is not known at this time if interment will be made here or not. His mother, Mrs. Hyckenbottom, resides in Baton Rouge with her daughter, Mrs. Helen Marie Lindsay. March 20, 1942 Mrs. Emma Jackson Dies At Home Here On Monday Morning Mrs. Emma Dean Jackson, age 83 years and one day, widow of the late W. F. Jackson, died at her home here Monday morning at the eight o'clock following an illness that confined here to her bed for about a week. Mrs. Jackson had been in failing health for several years. Funeral services, conducted by the Rev. Alwin Stokes, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, were held Tuesday morning at ten o'clock at the family residence and interment was in the Winnfield Cemetery. Surviving are one sister, Mrs. Mack K. Holston of Houston, Texas, and one grandson, E. H. Jackson of Miami, Fla. March 13, 1942 Lifelong Resident of Mt. Zion Buried Thursday P. M. Funeral services for Mrs. Henry Keiffer, 35, lifelong resident of the Mt. Zion Community, were held Thursday at the Methodist Church. Rev. J. A. Jones, former pastor, officiated. Burial was in the Mt. Zion Cemetery. Surviving are her husband, two children, William and Earline; her father and stepmother, Mr. and Mrs. Gus Dixon; four brothers, Henry, Charles, and Oscar of Mt. Zion and Tommy of North Carolina; a half sister, Mrs. Pugh McLaren of Mt. Zion March 20, 1942 Joe Lambert Buried Saturday, March 7 Joe Lambert, 37, Sikes resident, died March 6 at Urania. Funeral services for the deceased were held at Bethlehem, Rev. Arnold Head officiating. Burial was in the Bethlehem Cemetery, March 7. Surviving are his widow and one son, Cleo. March 13, 1942 "Aunt Minna" Marks Dies Sunday P. M.; Funeral Monday Miss Minna Marks, age 85, died at the home of her niece, Miss Nettie Bernstein, here, Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock following a long illness. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock and interment was made in the Jewish Cemetery at Monroe. "Aunt Minna" as she was known to a large circle of friends here, came to Winnfield about 1901 with the family of her late sister, Mrs. Phillip Bernstein from Montgomery. She is a native of Germany and came to America when a very small child. Surviving her are her niece, Miss Nettie Bernstein of Winnfield, with whom she made her home, and one nephew, Rudolph Bernstein of Monroe, and a number of other relatives of Monroe. March 20, 1942 D. F. Moore, Former Resident Dies At Home In Florida D. F. Moore, former resident of Winnfield died at his home in Venice, Florida last Saturday and funeral services were held later at Thomasville, Ga., where his family lived. The deceased with his wife, the former Miss Rhoda Boyett, sister of H. L. Boyett and Mrs. Minerva McKaskle, left Winnfield about 18 years ago for Venice, Florida. While residing here he was an engineer with the Tremont and Gulf Railway. He is survived by his widow, one son, H. L. Moore, who is in the U. S. Armed Forces, and three daughters, Mary, Bina Mae, and Helen. March 20, 1942 Mrs. Emily Scott Died Monday Of Heart Attack Mrs. Emily Scott, 85, died at her home at 1 a.m. Monday morning following a heart. The deceased was buried in the Winnfield Cemetery, Tuesday, March 17, at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Alwin Stokes, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, officiating. Mrs. Scott was born in Dallas County, Texas and came to this part of the country several years ago. She was a devout member of the Christian Church. She is survived by one son, W. C. Turner of this city. Pallbearers included Lee Dunn, Lee J. Grigsby, N. L. Horton, C. Smith, Manton Wood, and C. B. Cole. March 20, 1942 Heart Attack Claims Winnfield Resident Sunday Edwin Self, Sr., aged about 65, succumbed to a heart attack at his home near Winnfield Sunday morning. Mr. Self, a farmer, had been a resident of this section for many years and had been in failing health for some time. He is survived by one son, Edwin Self, Jr., one daughter, Marcie; two brothers, Emery Self and Walter Self, both of whom reside in Missouri; one sister, a resident of Oklahoma City, Okla. Funeral for the deceased was held Monday afternoon and was conducted by Rev. Moreland Doughty, Baptist minister of Tullos, assisted by Rev. Brackman also of Tullos, and Rev. Andrew Foster of Georgetown. Interment was in the Allen Cemetery near the Self home. March 13, 1942 Mrs. E. Spangler Buried At Zion Hill Cemetery Mrs. Elizabeth Spangler, 84 years, prominent and well beloved citizen of Zion Hill Community, died March 4, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Frank Jeter, Winnfield, Route 2, after a two week's illness. Funeral services were held at Zion Hill Baptist Church, March 5, at 3 o'clock, with the Rev. N. T. Smith of Calvin officiating. Interment was in the Zion Hill Cemetery. She is survived by four sons, Oscar and Lee Spangler of Wyatt; Butler of Sikes and Ernest of Kilburn (Kilbourne?); two daughters, Mrs. Ada Jordan of Winnfield and Mrs. F. Jeter of Winnfield. She also leaves several grandchildren and three great grandchildren and a host of friends. Pallbearers were Malvern Dickerson, Robert Gorham, Lois Lucas, Grover Jeter, Sheldon (Selden?), Dunn, and Felton Jeter. March 27, 1942 Mrs. S. Alice Wright Dies Sunday P. M. At Her Home Here Funeral Services held Monday Afternoon At First Baptist Church Funeral services for Mrs. Sarah Alice Wright, 84, widow of the late Jim D. Wright, who died at her home here Sunday afternoon at three o'clock were held at the First Baptist Church Monday afternoon at three o'clock. The rites were conducted by the Rev. H. H. McBride, pastor, assisted by the Rev. Alwin Stokes, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, and interment was made in the Winnfield Cemetery. Mrs. Wright was born in Smith County, Mississippi, and when a very small child moved to Winn Parish with her parents, John Murphy Long and Sarah Elizabeth Long. They settled in what is now Corinth Community, later moving to Winnfield. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and was one of the charter members of the present church organization, being one of the organizers. She was married to Jim D. Wright, a merchant and livestock dealer, who died in 1900. Surviving them are three sons, Dr. Roy Wright of New Orleans, James D. Wright of Winnfield, and William H. Wright of Baton Rouge; three daughters, Mrs. E. B. Harrell of DeQuincy, Mrs. D. W. Harrell of New Orleans, and Mrs. Florence Dalton of Winnfield. Mrs. Wright was the sister of the late Huey P. Long and aunt of the late Senator Huey P. Long. Pallbearers included Sheriff Bryant Sholars, Judge Cas Moss, G. M. Walsworth, Walter W. Allen, of Winnfield, Dr. C. M. Heflin of Baton Rouge, Rudolph Bernstein of Monroe, and J. W. Fowler of Shreveport.
